Proposed changes to the Radio Operators Certificate of Competence (ROCC)

On the 26th July 2011, the UK CAA promulgated a letter of consultation, which proposes an amendment to the Air Navigation order to rationalise the Radio Operators Certificate of Competence (ROCC).

The ROCC scheme is established to ensure that those who operate aeronautical radios, within the UK or UK territorial waters, for the purpose of providing an Air Ground Communication Service (AGCS), Offshore Communications Service (OCS) and those who provide a service to aircraft or parachutists within parachute drop zones, have appropriate levels of competency and can demonstrate this by undertaking an examination process.

The proposed amendment is aimed at achieving the following objectives: 

1. Require operators of aeronautical radio stations, within the UK and its territorial waters, who provide an Air Ground Communication Service (AGCS), Offshore Communications Service (OCS) and those who provide a service to aircraft or parachutists within parachute drop zones, to have appropriate competence for the task and be appropriately qualified.
 

2. To ensure the safe and effective operation of aeronautical radio stations. 
 

3. To aid the safety of the aviation environment. 

Resource Training is a UK CAA certified training college, approved to provide training towards the award of an air traffic controller’s licence.
 

Moreover, we provide courses for FISO, AGCS and OCS, which can be run at the Cwmbran College, or delivered to the customer’s location on a bespoke basis. These courses are taught by an accredited CAA examiner, who will ensure that all students are trained and examined in order to hold the appropriate certificate of competence.
