College Investment
October 2007 saw the installation of the BAE Systems C-ITS 3D DATS-TOWER (Durable Aviation Trainer Solution) Simulator. Our business unit in Stockholm, Sweden carried out the installation of 240º simulator in a period of two weeks.
The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority approved the platform for initial aerodrome training in late 2008, in time for the first of course of UK students to commence at the college in the following January.
In mid-2009, we expanded the 3D capability by adding a second simulator, ensuring that the college kept pace with customer requests for dynamic aerodrome training.
In 2010, the Cwmbran College continued its innovative investment programme by commencing a radar simulator re-life, which includes both replacement hardware and software upgrade. The new Modular Airspace Synthetic Environment (MASE) software has multi-screen display capability, picture-in-picture, improved weather displays, and a new Multi-Function Display Interface (MDI). The MDI is a fully integrated display system, which ensures exercise and mission critical data is immediately available to the controller.
